The short answerAn AI photo check lets a website visitor take a picture of what is wrong, such as a stained ceiling or a tripped breaker panel, and get a plain description of what the photo shows, what it might be and how urgent it looks. It is a first read, not a diagnosis. Its real job is to turn a worried visitor into a clear request you can call back about.
The problem it solves
Customers often cannot name what is wrong. They know there is a brown ring on the ceiling or a noise from the outdoor unit. They do not know whether it can wait until Monday, or what to type into a contact form. So they send a message that says "leak, please call". A photo carries far more information than that.
How it works
The visitor taps a button on your site, takes or chooses a photo, and waits a few seconds. An image-reading language model writes back in ordinary words: what the photo shows, what it could be, and whether it looks like a call-now problem or a book-a-visit problem. The visitor can then send that on to you with a name and a number.
What a photo can and cannot tell
A photo shows surfaces. It can show that shingles are missing, that a pipe is corroded or that a breaker is scorched. It cannot show what is inside a wall, how old a system is, or whether there is a second problem out of frame.
That is why wording matters. A responsible photo check says "this looks like" and "this could be". It does not name the repair and it does not give a price. Anything that touches gas, electricity or active water should come with a safety step and a push to call a person. Nobody should climb on a roof or open a panel to take a picture for a website.
What to check before you put one on your site
Ask the seller these.
- What happens to the photo after it is read? Is it stored, and by whom?
- Does it ever state a price or a definite diagnosis?
- What does it say when the picture is too dark, too blurry or nothing to do with your trade?
- What does the lead look like when it reaches you?
How mine works
The photo check I built is part of AI chat + photo check, not a separate product. The photograph is not stored, and what reaches you is the written read with the customer's name and number.
Questions people ask
Is an AI photo check a diagnosis?
No. It reads one picture. A diagnosis needs somebody on site with tools. Treat it as a better-informed first message from the customer.
What if the AI gets it wrong?
It sometimes will. That is why the wording should be in possibilities, and why a person follows up on every one.
